Flying Annie Moa (5 Water Days)

Flying Annie is a cute bed and breakfast, located near town. Within 5 minutes of walking, you will find yourself at restaurants and at the water’s edge.
For our trips, we have a small house with two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. We also have a room inside the main building with a double bed and ensuite bathrooms. Air conditioning is available in all of these suites, however, it is winter in Tonga, and most people do not need air conditioning.

Guests can choose from twin share or single occupancy (based on availability), with the price based on twin sharing. If you would like your own room there is a single supplement cost of $1300 USD, space permitting.

Itinerary Example

The first and last day of your trip dates are the arrival and departure dates. Every other day is a whale swim day, except Sundays. Boats leave at 7:30am and are allowed to be out for 7 hours, which is dictated by whale swim regulations in Tonga.

  • Saturday
Arrival Day – The first day of the trip is an arrival day into Vava’u, Tonga
  • Sunday
Sunday is a day of rest. No business is allowed to operate and flights are not allowed in or out of Tonga.
  • Monday – Friday
Water Days – Typically we like to leave the dock at 7:30 am.
  • Saturday
Departure Day – this is the departure day of the trip. Check out is 10am.

Information

Whale season in Vava’u is mid-July through October. Some days are sunny; some days are cloudy. The weather is warm, but you’ll want to bring a wind jacket to keep you comfortable on the boat. Water temperature is around 77 F (25 C).

Vava’u, in our opinion, is the best place in the world for in-water encounters with humpback whales. Only snorkeling is allowed with the whales as they don’t like divers’ bubbles, and it’s hard to keep up with whales on SCUBA. The topography of the islands allows us to work in most conditions, excluding intense weather days of course.

We will go out and swim with the whales in most conditions; the weather and seas don’t seem to affect the whales at all. We search for the whales in calm, sheltered bays, open sea — pretty much wherever the day takes us!
